The quarry of Saint-Julien-Molin-Molette can continue its activity for another 25 years

The Delmonico-Dorel quarry in Saint-Julien-Molin-Molette, in the Loire, can continue its activity. The prefect of Loire, Alexandre Rochatte, ratified on February 21st, by prefectural decree, the approval for the exploitation of the quarry for a period of 25 years.

The order, however, limits the quarry's production volume to 15,000 tons. The company Delmonico-Dorel has to reduce its tonnage from 165,000 tons per year to 150,000 tons. In addition, the number of daily truck passages is set at 100 trucks (70 trucks in the municipality of Saint-Julien-Molin-Molette and 30 trucks in the municipality of Colombier).

This decision is a relief for Joachim Boitard, director of the career sector of Delmonico-Dorel, “This prefecture is a relief for the company. It is the culmination of more than six months of consultation, which leads to a number of efforts that the company is making, especially in transport. The decree is now approved passage of 100 trucks from the quarry.

“We are disappointed, we have taken a step forward”

A decision that disappointed CĂ©line Elie, mayor of the municipality of Saint-Julien-Molin-Molette, “We made a gesture by making a proposal to the prefect. We proposed the exploitation of a maximum of 125,000 tons based on their figures. And we were not heard from. We are disappointed, because we have taken a big step forward. There are few municipalities that are capable of questioning themselves, so we consider it very unfortunate that our solution was not accepted.”
Despite this setback, the town's mayor admits there are positives: “Thanks to this temporary ordinance, there were only 50 trucks allowed to cross our village. We still felt the difference. There are still disturbances, but they have decreased.”

The city hall is giving itself a few days to find out if it will appeal against this decree of the prefecture. Municipalities and opponents have a legal deadline of four months.
